Lady Texans get first district win of the season

The Lady Texans started district play last week as Wimberley dropped their district opener against Fredericksburg before defeating the Davenport Wolves 4638 for their first district win of the season.

Wimberley improves their record to 10-8 overall with a 1-1 district record which puts the Lady Texans in a four-way tie for second place along with Davenport, Navarro and Boerne.

The Lady Texans kicked off district on the road as Wimberley made the trip out to Fredericksburg in a showdown with the No. 4 ranked Lady Billies.

It was a rough start for the Lady Texans as the Lady Billies jumped out in front and scored 20 points in the first quarter.

Wimberley’s offense failed to gain any traction as the Lady Texans could only manage just 6 points in the quarter as they trailed 20-6 heading into the second quarter.

Fredericksburg continued their offensive prowess as the Lady Billies dropped 16 points on the Lady Texans.

Wimberley was unable to find any offensive momentum as the Lady Texans only managed four points in the quarter as Fredericksburg held a commanding 36-10 lead.

The Billies were in full control in the second half as Wimberley fell to Fredericksburg 6524.

Looking to bounce back, the Lady Texans were back in the friendly comforts of Texan Gym as Wimberley hosted Davenport.

It was a tough challenge for Wimberley as the Lady Wolves were off a major win against the Boerne Greyhounds last Tuesday.

Wimberley got off to a hot start as the Lady Texans jumped out to a 10-3 lead over the Lady Wolves in the first quarter.

Though the Lady Wolves were able to find some offensive momentum in the second quarter, the Lady Texans continued to score more points as Wimberley held a 22-14 lead.

The third quarter saw Davenport continue to make runs as the Lady Texans in an effort to stage the comeback.

But Wimberley once more continued to press forward as the Lady Texans held a 42-22 lead heading into the fourth quarter.

Davenport tried their best to stage the comeback win as the Lady Wolves out scored the Lady Texans in the fourth quarter 16-4 during the period.

But it wasn’t enough as Wimberley’s third quarter efforts put the Lady Texans over the top for the 46-38 win.

Wimberley will go on the road for their next district game as the Lady Texans will travel to Bandera to take on the Lady Bulldogs after press time on Tuesday.

Wimberley will also participate in Texan Hoopfest next weekend.
