Lady Texans fall to Navarro in the playoffs

The Lady Texans basketball team saw their season come to an end as Wimberley fell to Navarro 61-29 in the Bi-District round of the playoffs.

The Lady Texans finish the season with a 22-15 overall record, which is their best record in a few years.

The veteran Lady Panthers overwhelmed a young Wimberley team as their guard play was too much for the Lady Texans.

“Give credit to Navarro,” Hall said. “They are a really good team and had a lot of girls get a lot of buckets… I felt we did a good job with their bigs but their guards are talented and very good players.”

The Lady Texans also suffered from the turnover bug as the Lady Panthers took advantage of Wimberley’s mistakes to build on their lead.

“I think our youth showed tonight,” Hall said. “We struggled with them on the open floor and times when we got in too big of a hurry, we forgot to do the fundamental things like get back on defense, rebound and not give up second chance shots because they capitalized on our mistakes. They looked like a more veteran team than we did and took advantage of our mistakes.”

While the loss will sting, the game will be a learning experience for the underclass to improve on as working together as a team.

“The biggest thing we take away from this is how to play as a team,” Hall said. “Play defense as a team, play offense as a team, hustle as a team, get on the floor as a team, hit the boards as a team, and run the floor and transition as a team. We had moments of individual triphument but our best moments came when we worked as a team. That’s what I want our team to take into next year.”

But as the Lady Texans prepare for the off-season, Hall will be preparing for another journey.

“I’ve got a little girl, Ruby Joy, coming in the first week of April, ” Hall said. “My wife and I are really excited about that and it’s been a fun journey throughout this basketball season with her being pregnant and following us through the season. She’s the trooper and has been doing really great. I’m really excited for my daughter and can’t wait to get a basketball in her hands as soon as she can hold one.”
