Lady Texans fall after schedule changes

The Wimberley Lady Texan Basketball team was hit with a curveball this week as Bandera had to cancel their game Tuesday night due to an outbreak on the Bulldogs team.

The cancellation forced the Lady Texans to play only one district game on Friday as Wimberley traveled to Fredericksburg to take the #3 ranked Lady Billies.

Fredericksburg jumped on Wimberley as the Lady Billies took control of the game in the first quarter. As the two teams headed into the second quarter, Fredericksburg took a commanding 21-8 lead.

After the Lady Billies stretched the lead to 30-9, the Lady Texans stormed back as Wimberley went on a 12-4 run. Heading into halftime, Wimberley clawed themselves back into the game trailing 34- 21.

Despite trailing 46-29, the Lady Billies took control once again went on an 8-0 run to close out the third quarter as Fredericksburg took a 54-29 lead heading into the fourth.

Though the Lady Texans outscored the Lady Billies 19-15 in the fourth quarter, it wasn’t enough, and Fredericksburg came away with the 69-48 win over Wimberley.

Wimberley will now wrap up the final week of district play with a three-game stretch including playing back-to-back games on Tuesday and Wednesday night.

The Lady Texans will host Davenport before hosting Bandera in a game that will potentially determine the third seed in the district. It also serves as Wimberley’s final home game of the season.

The final regular-season game comes Friday night as the Lady Texans travel to Boerne to battle the Lady Hounds with a chance to tie Boerne for second place in the district and force a tiebreaking game.
