Golf teams take top honors

The Wimberley Texan golf team had the top individual scores in both the boys’ and the girls’ tournaments at Quicksand Golf Course last weekend.

Gage Pruitt won the boys’ tournament with a 78 knocking 15 strokes off his previous best round.

“He had a really good day and played really well,” Head Coach Dane Saucier said. “He took advantage of playing the home course. He is capable of shooting low scores and it was great to see him do it.”

Hallie Adare won the girls’ tournament with a 73 beating second place by two strokes.

“She really played great,” Saucier said. “One-over par is an excellent round.”

The girls’ team also won the tournament outright. The top four individual scores on each team are combined. The lowest team score wins the tournament, and Wimberley shot a 365 to beat Boerne by 11 strokes.

“The girls have gotten better every week, and that is what you are aiming for,” Saucier said. “We have one more week before spring break. Then we have district in about a month, so we are continuing to get better. Fredericksburg has won the team district title several years in a row. We are looking forward to try and see if we can win the team title this year.”

Linzy Lassetter was the second highest finisher for the Wimberley girls’ team placing 9th with a 90. Kennedee Shroyer and Peyton Smith placed 19th and 20th each shooting a 101.

The boys’ team placed second overall behind Boerne by shooting a 332. Hunter Peevy was the second highest finisher for the Wimberley boys’ team placing 7th with a score of 81. Rex Kidd placed 12th with a score of 83. Robby Richter placed 24th with a score of 90.

Both teams play another tournament this week in Comfort before Spring Break begins.
