Eight game win streak
After a middling 3-3 start to the season, the Wimberley Texan girl’s soccer team strung together eight straight wins to run their record to 11-3.
“I think we are doing really well,” freshman soccer player Selah Jones said. “We are growing together and becoming more of a team.”
Wimberley went to the Fredericksburg Invitational and swept all of their games including a 3-0 victory over Marble Falls, a 9-0 victory over Fredericksburg and a 1-0 win over San Antonio Cole.
“In recent years San Antonio Cole has been a developing program,” Head Coach Brinton Nute said. “This year they have really improved. They gave us a good game at the tournament, which is good because we play them again this week.”
On Tuesday of last week, the Texans headed to Bastrop to play Cedar Creek, which they won 5-0. Izzy Frank had a hat trick in the game scoring three goals.
“We’ve asked her to play as a lone forward and she has been using her body strength really well,” Nute said. “She does a good job of linking the midfield with the forward. She gives 100 percent and she is getting the rewards of that effort.”
Wimberley finished off the week with a 2-1 win over Burnet. The next game will be on the road against San Antonio Cole on Friday at 5 p.m.
