Baseball season finishes out solid week

Despite the recent events of the UIL, the Wimberley Texans baseball team finished out the week strong going 2-2 during the weekend at the Texan Classic.

Texan Baseball will be on hold for the time being as the UIL has suspended all play of sporting events due to the spread of Covid-19 (Corona Virus) starting on March 16 and ending on March 29.

The Texans will start back presumably on March 31 barring no more cancellations as Wimberley will kick off district play against on the road rival Fredericksburg.

After going 2-1-1 in the Llano tournament, the Texans were back at it again at home to build momentum towards district play.

Starting play on Thursday, Wimberley battle the Stephenville Yellowjackets. In a close and hard-fought game, the Texans came out on top and defeating the Yellowjackets 6-4.

There was no rest for the weary as Wimberley played the very next game as the Texans were set to play the Austin St. Michael’s Crusaders. It was another victory for Wimberley as the Texans knocked off the Crusaders in a 6-3 effort to extend their winning streak to four games.

Wimberley resumed play on Friday as the Texans took on the Houston Lutheran South Pioneers. Though the Texans fought hard, the Pioneer offense was too much for Wimberley scoring 15 runs on route to a 15-6 victory and snapping the Texans four-game winning streak.

With the announcement of the UIL suspending play, the scheduled game on Saturday against Burnet was canceled due to the Bulldogs suspending all athletic play. With the game canceled with Burnet, the Texans set up another game with the Stephenville Yellowjackets in a rematch from Friday.

In the end, it was the Yellowjackets getting their revenge and defeating Wimberley 8-6.

With Wimberley finishing the Texas Classic at two wins and two losses, the Texans will go on hiatus with an 8-5-2 record.
