Baseball regular season finale rained out

The Wimberley baseball team’s regular season finale showdown with the New Braunfels Canyon was not meant to be as the recent thunderstorms forced the game to be canceled.

Originally scheduled to be played last Saturday, the Texans were set to battle the Cougars, who captured the 5A District 26 title, in what was essentially a warm up game before both teams headed towards the playoffs.

However, the rainstorms through the weekend forced the game to be moved to Monday night at 7pm.

Despite a leadoff single by outfielder Josh Prado, the Texans were unable to bring him home as Wimberley went scoreless in the first.

Canyon was able to get on board in the first inning as a two-out single lead to the runner scoring on a pass ball as the Cougars took a 1-0 lead.

The second inning saw the Texans got two runners on bases, but they were unable to bring them home.

However, the Cougars could not add on to their lead despite the leadoff walk as starting pitcher Matthew Tippie struck out the side to keep Canyon off the board.

Unfortunately for both teams, an incoming thunderstorm forced the game to be delayed, which eventually led to a cancellation with the game not affecting either teams record.

With no indication of a potential rescheduling, both teams will look forward to the playoffs.

The outlook in the 4A playoffs has the potential to favor the Texans though the journey will not be easy.

However, a very competitive district season has prepared Wimberley for the playoffs, which could see the Texans play the 4A Number 1 team in the state in the Sinton Pirates during the Regional Quarter-final round.

The Bi-District matchup for the Texans has yet to be determined as of the time of publication.
