Adare wins Comfort golf tournament

Hallie Adare took first place in the Comfort Invitational shooting a one-over-par 72. The Lady Texans finished in fourth place by one shot as a team even though they only had the minimum required four players meaning every individual’s score counted. Normally, the worst individual finish is dropped from a five-person team.

Madelynne Rivera shot her best score with a 95. This was the first time she has broken 100 in a tournament.

“It was perfect conditions,” Golf Coach Dane Saucier said. “You couldn’t ask for a better day, and Hallie made the most of it. She hit the ball really well, and was on nearly every green in regulation. She bogeyed the first two holes and shot one-over par, if that tells you how well she was playing.”

Two days earlier, the Texan golf team wasn’t so lucky with the weather.

“We had a few guys sick to begin with, and it was 35 degrees and really windy,” Saucier said. “It was just miserable.”

Jaxson Donaldson shot 75. Cody Stoever shot his best round of the year with a 85 as did Nolan Waida with a 91.

“Even though it was miserable, you can still learn how to hit new shots and flight the ball down a little bit in conditions like that,” Saucier said. “Our regional tour nament is always held in Victoria, and it always seems to have windy weather like that. Maybe it was good to get them out there in these conditions, so we can learn from it now.”

The next tournament will be on March 21 for the boys’ team in Fredericksburg. The girls’ team will follow up on March 23.
