    Cayon Bass, in eighth grade, won the title of Texas Junior High State Champion

Local youth qualifies to compete at world’s largest Junior High rodeo

Canyon Bass, 8th grade student has won the title of 2018 Texas Junior High State Champion Bull Rider.

Texas High School & Jr. High Rodeo has 10 Regions across Texas that compete throughout the year with the top 10 from each Region coming together for a week long State competition in May. At the State Finals, there are 2 rounds with the top 15 coming back to the Short Round Finals. At the Short Round, they take the top 4 contestants to Nationals which will be in Huron, South Dakota this year. At the National Jr. High Finals there are roughly 1000 contestants from 43 states, five Canadian provinces, Australia and Mexico. The contestants are competing for more than $80,000 in prizes and for more than $200,000 in college scholarships and the title of National Champion.

At the State Finals, Canyon Bass won 1st in Round 1, 5th in Round 2, 1st in the Short Round, 1st in the Average and took home the high score of the week. Canyon’s accomplishments earned him a champion saddle, champion gold buckle, go round buckles and prize money.

The National Jr. High Finals will be televised on RFD-TV with live broadcast on www.ridepass.com.Canyon Bass will be competing Tuesday, June 26th at 7 pm and again on Thursday, June 28th at 9 am.

Canyon’s parents, Clay and Stephanie Bass would like to invite you to a “National Send-Off” this Friday, June 15 from 6-11 at 5200 FM 2325 in Wimberley, behind the big green metal building. There will be fried fish plates for sale, a jackpot goat roping, and washer pitching. Bring your lawn chair and have some fun! If you can’t stay, come by for a plate to go!
