Sonny McCuistion

10/5/1924-8/31/2021

Palmer Day “Sonny” McCuistion passed away peacefully in his sleep in hospice care in Patagonia, Az. He was born in Wimberley to Beatrice George McCuistion and Nealon Day McCuistion. His great grandfather, Elisha McCuistion, was one of the earliest settlers in Wimberley. Sonny grew up with best friends Jack Oldham, Karl D. Dobie and, although older, he knew Carl Scudder very well. After high school, he left for the Navy and served during WWII. He returned and married Peg Orem McCuistion in a double ceremony with her twin sister Anne to Gerald “Jack” Mayes on the Carney Ranch 9/4/1949. He worked as a brand inspector for Southwest Cattle Raiser’s Association in Paris, Texas before moving to Pasadena to work for Harris County Sheriff’s Department. After a divorce, He moved to Arizona where he remained for the rest of his life doing what he loved, cattle ranching. He loved his cattle, his horses and his dogs and took good care of his land. He is predeceased by his parents, Bea and Day, his aunt and uncle Lizzie and Luis McCuistion, his aunt Maude McCuistion Hunt, his cousin Pam Harris (Tim) all of Wimberley and his late wife Nancy Hunt McCuistion of Arizona. He is survived by his only child, Lee McCuistion of Wimberley. His ashes will be interred next to his mother in the Wimberley Cemetery.
