Robert Franklin Harris, Jr

Robert Franklin Harris, Jr, 71, died of COVID-19 in The Woodlands, Texas, on February 5, 2021. Robert celebrated his first birthday and learned to walk at a cabin in Eagle Rock Ranch in Wimberley and then spent all of his growing up summers there. That September in 1950 his parents, Bob and Dorothy Harris, purchased a two-bedroom log cabin as the new summer home for the family to get away from the polio epidemic in the Houston area. Today the fifth generation of the family still loves that cabin and considers it their second home. Robert was the person who kept the ancient plumbing, wiring, etc functioning and he loved every minute in Wimberley.

As a toddler, Robert would go on the dude ranch trail rides with the family – but in the saddle seated in front of the wrangler and mostly enjoying his morning nap. He learned to swim at what is now the Lodge at Cypress Creek and spent hours at indoor and outdoor shuffle board. At night there were hayrides and great movies by the pool and occasionally trips to The Corral Outdoor Theatre or 7-A Ranch for the Medicine Show. With no radio, TV, or air-conditioning, the children played cards and read in the few hours a day not spent at The Lodge

Robert spent his adult career at Lubrizol in Deer Park, Texas. Upon retirement, he and his wife developed a health insurance business. Robert thoroughly enjoyed meeting new people and helping them with their health insurance questions.

All who knew him, knew they could count on Robert to help whenever needed. Perhaps the nurse with him throughout his weeks in ICU described him best: “He was the kindest, sweetest man I ever met.”

Robert is survived by his wife Alma of Huffman, Texas, his daughter Angie Perez of Katy, Texas, sisters Dianne Wheeler and Darlene Wuensche of Austin, Texas, grandchildren all of whom adored him.

Robert will be buried in Houston beside his parents and his daughter, Tammy Lea Harris Coronado.
