Naomi Earline Ormand Belote

Naomi Earline Ormand Belote, known as Earline or “Ene” to most, was born in Gatesville Texas, on February 16, 1919 to Walter Polk Ormand and Naomi Mignonnette Williams Ormand. Earline was raised in San Saba, Texas with her three brothers, Reginald, Walter Lee, Jack, and one sister Creola.

While growing up in San Saba she knew everyone that lived there and had many wonderful childhood memories. The family lived across the street from the tennis courts at the school and Earline loved to play tennis.

At the age of 22 she married 1st Sergeant (U.S. Army) Lem Yeates Belote, on December 25, 1941. As Lem was transferred to new stations, Earline lived in many different states and spent three years in Germany. During these years Earline became a parent to two step daughters: Jo Ann Belote Walker and Clema Jean Belote Burger, as well as having two more children: daughter Nannette Belote McCord and son Kenneth Austin Belote.

Lem’s last deployment was San Antonio Texas. They found the small town of San Marcos just before Lem retired (Lt. Colonel) from the service in 1960, and they settled there where Ene was a stay at home mom until her son began high school. Then she was employed at Hillburns Pharmacy and then later at Woods Jewelry.

Earline loved to golf and played Monday through Friday, weather and circumstances permitting. She also loved bowling and was on the San Marcos Women’s League for years.

In the 60’s Lem and Earline found the town of Wimberley through weekend drives and friends. They spent a lot of time with friends in Wimberley on the Blanco River enjoying cookouts and playing washers.

Lem had always wanted to live in the country, so in 1972 they moved to Wimberley. They loved going to Market Day, and had a booth for a while. Lem Passed away in May of 1991.

Earline continued to reside in Wimberley after the passing of her husband Lem. She loved to watch the Houston Astros, and Dancing with the Stars, (especially Derek Hough). She loved Turner Classic Movies, and has watched every old movie that was ever made, (over and over again and again). She loved to watch tennis and would not miss an Open if she knew it was on television, and would get plenty upset if her player misses a shot or didn’t win. On February 16th 2019, Earline’s 100th birthday, Mayor Susan Jaggers of Wimberley Texas issued the proclamation that this day would be known to Wimberley as Naomi Earline Belote day and honored her with a birthday party at City Hall. When Earline was not at home in Wimberley you could find her with her daughter, Nannette McCord, in League City.

Naomi Earline Belote is preceded in death by her parents father Walter Polk Ormand, mother Naomi Mignonnette Ormand, sister Creolla Mignonnette Ormand, brother Reginald Ormand, brother Walter Lee Ormand and step daughter Clema Jean Burger.

She is survived by her brother Jack Wilson Ormand, step daughter Jo Ann Walker, daughter Nannette McCord, and son Kenneth Austin Belote and leaves a legacy of 23 Grandkids, 42 Great Grandkids and 19 Great Great grandkids. She was loved by all and will be missed by all.
