    NANCY E. JENKINS

Nancy E. Jenkins

February 21, 1944 – July 8, 2021

Nancy Evelyn Smith Jenkins, 77, of Wimberley, Texas, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, friend went to be with the Lord on Thursday, July 8, 2021, after a brief stay in the hospital. We will miss our sweet Nancy but know we will see her again in the sweet bye and bye. Nancy was born February 21, 1944, in San Antonio, Texas to Floyd Dennitt and Evelyn Wright Smith.

She started first grade at Castle Hills Elementary and graduated from Robert E. Lee High School in San Antonio and continued her education at Southwest Texas State. After college, she lived in Austin, Texas for about 10 years and worked for the Police Department and the IRS.

Throughout her youth, Nancy, her sisters, and her cousins loved to spend weekends in Wimberley swimming at the Bluehole, riding horses, eating at Forrester’s Café, and just being at the ranch. In 1962, she got her wish when the family moved to Wimberley. She felt a special connection to Wimberley since her ancestors Clopton, Mayes and Meeks settled here in the mid-1800s.

She married John C. Jenkins on January 27, 1972, and they soon returned to Wimberley where they raised their children, Carrie Jenkins Lujan and Jason Jenkins.

Nancy loved to take trips to South Padre Island and Florida, where she swam and played in the surf with her children and sisters. She took many trips to New Mexico, Arizona, and Colorado with Carrie and her grandchildren and enjoyed going to Alabama to visit kin. She had just returned from a special vacation to Yellowstone National Park with John and their children and grandchildren. She loved being with them.

Nancy is survived by her husband John C. Jenkins of Wimberley; daughter Carrie Lynn Jenkins and husband Ric Lujan of Santa Fe, New Mexico; son Jason Chandler Jenkins and wife Marcie Edwards Jenkins of Wimberley; and grandchildren Laney and Rylie Jenkins of Wimberley and Chandler and Dylan Lujan of New Mexico. She is also survived by her sisters Sylvia Everett and Carolyn Haley of Wimberley and many nieces and nephews: Jeffery Everett of Houston, Melinda Everett of Wimberley, Laurie Haley Herring of Missouri City, Cindy Haley, Debbie Haley, Vanessa Haley Jones, Ben Haley and Daniel Haley of Wimberley, Kathy Jenkins Murray and Lewis Jenkins of Dripping Springs and Judy Carlton of Bertram.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Floyd D. and Evelyn Smith, and brother-in-law Cecil Jenkins of Dripping Springs.

At a young age Nancy accepted Christ as her savior and joined Trinity Baptist Church in San Antonio. When the family moved to Wimberley, she joined First Baptist Church and was active in children’s Sunday School and served as Church Librarian for many years, enjoying ministering in that capacity.

Visitation will take place on Thursday, July 15 from 4:30 to 7 p.m. at Thomason Funeral Home in Wimberley. A service will take place Friday, July 16 at 1 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Wimberley, followed by interment at the Wimberley Cemetery.
