Kenneth Alvis Evans

Kenneth Alvis Evans of New Braunfels, Texas, beloved husband, father, grand-and-great-grandfather passed away on September 17, 2021, at the age of 88. He was born in Beaumont, Texas to Kenneth and Helen (Ford) Evans on October 20, 1932.

He grew up and did his schooling in Commerce, Texas and while on campus at East Texas State College, Ken met his wife, Jane, and they were married in Royse City, Texas on Nov 27, 1953. Ken joined the Air Force and they moved to Falls Church, VA while he served in the ciphers division. He later received his Master’s in Mathematics from the University of Texas at Austin and for 25+ years he taught mathematics at Southwest Texas State University in San Marcos.

Ken had a love of music and played the trombone in his youth, later the guitar and even the ukulele late in life. He enjoyed UT football, fishing at the lake or the coast, and drinking coffee! He also had a love of trains and spent a great deal of time building train displays, watching videos on trains, and one summer he and Jane vacationed on a train ride across Canada.

He was preceded in death by his wife of over 65 years, Jane Houser Evans, his parents, and brother Idris William Evans.

He is survived by his nephew Kenneth Ford Evans (Liz) of Virginia; his four daughters, Chere Ann Evans Garza (Alex) of San Marcos, Amy Sue Evans McDonald (Lynn) of Clear Lake, Vicki Lynn Evans Mason (Ted) of New Braunfels, and Christie Kay Evans Defries (Ron) of New Braunfels; nine grandchildren, Kacey McDonald Bryant, Malia Garza, Abbey McDonald Fera, Mandi Mason Calame, Hilary Garza Esquivel, Brazos Mason, Justin Garza, Libby Defries and Carter Defries; and 11 great-grandchildren, Dana, Karys, Kaylee, Colt, Makayla, Khyler, Audrey, Dominick, Case, Fox, and Rowan.

The family will have graveside services at 10:30 A.M., Sunday, October 10, 2021, at the Wimberley Cemetery. A Celebration of Life will follow at 2:00 P.M. in the Pennington Memorial Chapel in San Marcos.
