    KATHY JANE PYEATT

Kathy Jane Pyeatt

On Saturday, October 23, 2021, Kathy Jane Pyeatt of Wimberley, Texas passed away peacefully at home with her family by her side. Kathy was born on June 29, 1949 in Fort Worth, Texas to Leonard Aubrey Pyeatt and Hazel Bell Mobley Pyeatt. She grew up riding horses, watching westerns, and loved being outside all day long. She attended Paschal High School and graduated in 1967. She went to Tarrant County Junior College for a semester, and in 1969, Kathy married her first husband, Bobby McCright. They had one daughter together, Shea Kathleen, and though they later divorced, they remained committed to raising her jointly. As a single mom, Kathy worked many different and interesting jobs, mostly in real estate and title work, but she even did a stint as a Pinkerton PI.

Kathy moved to Wimberley in 1992 where she pursued her dreams of owning a ranchette and raising horses. She loved her horses, and especially bonded with her Appaloosa mare, Callie. She loved living the cowgirl life and had a knack for cowgirl chic decorating, eventually opening a shop, El Rancho Loco, on the Wimberley Square and later, a boot and saddle repair shop in Blanco. Eventually, Kathy retired from raising horses and began to pursue her passion for art. Her watercolor and alcohol ink paintings showed her love for the desert and the natural world, especially Big Bend, where she and her daughter traveled whenever possible. More than anything, she adored spending time with her two grandsons, and often made them artistic gifts and paintings.

Kathy is preceded in death by her father Leonard Aubrey Pyeatt, her mother, Hazel Bell Mobley Pyeatt, he brother-in-law, William “Dub” Robertson. She is survived by her daughter, Shea Kathleen Cockrell, her son-in-law, James Benjamin Cockrell, and her grandsons, Rowan James and Carter Bobby Cockrell, her sister, Linda Robertson, her brother, James Pyeatt and his wife Cherry, and her nieces Marcie Danzeisor, Reagan Macnamara, and Carrie Manna their families.

A celebration of Kathy’s life will be held on November 13th at 3:00 pm at Old Glory Ranch in Wimberley. In lieu of flowers, please consider supporting a cause dear to Kathy’s heart by donating to Happened by Chance Horse Rescue in New Braunfels, Texas at www.happenedbychancehorses.com.
