Karl A. Morton

November 21, 1961 – August 10, 2021

Retired Lt. Col. Karl Alan Morton, loving father, grandfather, brother, son and friend peacefully passed away Tuesday, August 10, 2021, in his home in Wimberley, Texas, surrounded by his family. Karl was also a decorated combat veteran of the United States Army.

Karl was a proud Army brat. He was born November 21, 1960, in Kansas City, Missouri, and graduated from Taegu American High School in Korea in 1979. He was an extra in movies along with a variety of TV shows. His passion was performing with his daughter at the Emily Ann Theater. He made the best chocolate chunk cookies.

Karl served in the Army for 31 years. He spent time in the Artillery, Civil Affairs, and Calvary. Late in his career he contributed to the training of civil affairs units from across the country.

Karl also spent 16 years working in the CODIS lab at Texas Department of Public Safety where he helped set up Texas’ DNA database.

Karl is survived by his daughter Krystal Morton; her mother Jane Morton; his stepsons David Goodman and Ryan Goodman (Gabby); and his grandchildren Adam, Karlee, and Maverick Goodman. He is also survived by his father Arthur, his brother Ray (JoAnne), his sister Cheryl (Orlando), his nieces Margo and Brianna, and his nephew Bryce. Karl was preceded in death by his mother Marji, his grandparents Art and Maureen Morton and George and Lois Altherr, and father-in-law Barham Bratton.

A military service honoring the life of Karl will be held Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio, Texas. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Wounded Warriors Project.
