Joan E Schubert

Joan E Schubert, 86, of Naperville, IL passed away on December 2nd, 2020. She was born on July 25th, 1934 in Waukegan IL, the daughter of Roy Sr. and Grace Olson.

Joan received her Associate’s Degree from Stephens College in Columbia, MO and her Bachelor’s Degree in Education from the University of Illinois. At U of I, she met the love of her life, Steve Schubert, who was her husband of 50 years until he passed in 2007. She was a loving and supportive partner, mother, and treasured friend to so many. She was generous with her time, and dedicated many hours to volunteer roles in her church, schools, and communities in which she lived. Combining her passion for education and art, she was instrumental in bringing the Picture Lady Program to Mendota elementary schools, which brought fine art to life for students. Joan was also the first woman to serve on the district elementary school board in Mendota. When Steve retired in 1989, they moved from Mendota, IL to Wimberley, TX, where she continued her passion for art and painting. Joan was a member of the Wimberley Valley Art League and enjoyed painting scenes from some of their favorite places in their travels abroad. After Steve’s death, Joan moved back to Illinois to be closer to family.

Joan will always be remembered for how she lived each day with a generous heart, kindness, and grace.

She is survived by her three children, Eric (Felicia), Lisa (Dave) Newman and Jane Birkenbeuel; grandchildren Dominic and Isabelle, Greg and Erin, Kat and Alex (father, Rick Birkenbeuel). She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, her brother Roy, and inlaws Mike and Rosalind Schubert. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to the organization of your choosing, or simply be intentional to offer acts of kindness to others each day; all are appreciated.

A private burial will be held on a future date.
