Gerald Lee Estepp

Gerald Lee Estepp, age 91, passed away on May 27, 2021, in Texarkana, Texas. He was career banker, joining the Austin National Bank, located in Austin, Texas, in 1947 at age 17 (as a Senior at the old Austin High School) as a bank teller, and retiring after 35 years of service as a vice president in the credit department.

Gerald married Martha Louis Lambert on July 1, 1955, moving to the Windsor Park Subdivision in northeast Austin. During his time living on Lake Travis during the 1970s, he served on the Leander School Board and was an early member of the Comanche Trail Community Association, designing the official logo used today. Later returning to living in west Austin in the early 1980s, Gerald served on the Travis County Tax Appraisal District for several years. After retiring from the Austin National Bank, he moved to Atlanta, Texas for his retirement years. In community service,

In community service, Gerald was active in the West Austin Lions Club, serving as its president from 1968 to 1969. In addition, he served as publicity chair in District Governor J.J. “Jake” Pickle’s Lions District 2-S3 cabinet from 1959 to 1960. During the Korean conflict, he joined the U.S. Marine Corps and was stationed at Camp Pendleton, serving in the parole office.

Gerald had a sharp wit up to the end of his life, always keeping up with current events and was a great player at jeopardy. Being a 7th generation Texan from the DeWitt Colony, he was well versed in Texas history. He enjoyed camping and hiking with his family, especially in Big Bend National Park, a favorite destination.

Gerald is preceded in death by his father, Fred Lee (“Stepper”) Estepp, mother, Grace Walker Estepp, and wife, Martha Lambert Estepp. Survivors include a son, John David Estepp and wife Robin, of Wimberley, Texas, and a daughter, Julia Estepp Elkins, of Atlanta, Texas; three grand children, Melissa Estepp Reid and husband Scott of Tomball, Texas; John Richard Estepp of Austin, Texas, Diana Elkins and husband Calvin Pollard of Sugarland, Texas; and two great grand children, Kendall Lacey Reid and Levi Weston Reid of Tomball, Texas.
