    ERA LOIS YOUNG ROBERTS

Era Lois Young Roberts

November 19,1928 - August 6, 2021

Era Lois Young Roberts was born November 19, 1928 and was called to be with God on August 6th, 2021.

She was preceded in her Godly call by her husband Bill Roberts, son Wade Roberts and grandson Josh Roberts; her parents Alfred and Rosie Young, her brother Leon Young and sister Shirley Ann Ferguson.

She is survived by her son and his wife, Steve and Jerri Roberts of Wimberley; the families of two granddaughters Jennifer and Ruben Roberts; Sherri and Shawn Anthony and grandson Charles “Britt” and Lauren Roberts; daughter-in-law Tonya Roberts; five great grandsons: Tristan, Landon, Corbin, Nathan and Wade; granddaughter Sonja; and sister-in-laws Loreene Escouba and Barbara Young.

Lois grew up in the east Texas oil field towns until her father was able to settle in tiny Tarkington Prairie outside of Cleveland. Growing up in a rural setting she enjoyed horseback riding and played basketball while attending high school. She graduated salutatorian in her small class and set her heart on becoming a nurse. She completed her nurses training at Lilly Jolly School of Nursing in Houston and practiced pediatric nursing throughout her professional career at San Jacinto Methodist Hospital in Baytown, Texas.

She met and married Leonard “Bill” Roberts, a returning World War II veteran and Humble Oil Company employee on February 14th 1951. They made their home in Baytown and raised two sons, Steve who became a professional therapist and Wade who became a professional chef.

Upon Bill’s retirement they moved to Wimberley in 1984 where they built a log cabin home on five acres. She enjoyed flower and vegetable gardening, entertaining visiting family and friends, music and travel. She and Bill traveled throughout the continental United States and Hawaii. After she had returned to Hawaii, she toured England and Scotland with friends and family members.

Lois loved music, especially religious and instrumental. She learned to play the accordion and collected records and then CDs of her favorite spiritual artists.

Throughout her life Lois demonstrated a strong spiritual character. She attended the Baptist Church wherever she lived, participating in Bible study, worship, tithing, caring for those in the church who were in need. She raised her sons in the church, witnessed personally to them and saw them both become Christians. She taught Sunday School for decades first in Baytown and then in Wimberley and demonstrated practical Christian compassion to her class throughout her ministry through prayer, visitation, cards/letters and baked goods. Her selflessness extended beyond her own class. She demonstrated a Christ-like love for others through her philanthropy. She gave to organizations that helped repair cleft palate in children, purchased animals for those in poverty, and gave service to wounded veterans, to name a few. As her health failed her and she could no longer drive, she chose to give her car to a needy person, which a deacon of the church helped her identify.

She will be remembered by her family because of her Godly character, morality, and the powerful love she showed in all her relationships. She will be remembered with honor because of what she stood for and against, as a Christian woman, wife, mother, grandmother and friend.

In lieu of flowers please make a donation to a charity of your choice. A memorial will be planned at a later date and communicated through social media.
