    DELORIS MAE SHAFFER JONES

Deloris Mae Shaffer Jones

Deloris Mae Shaffer Jones was born in Sheldon, Iowa April 18, 1925 passed quietly in her sleep September 27, 2021 in Wimberley, Texas.

She was preceded in death by her parents Dale and Zella Shaffer, her husband Vernon Lee Jones, her sister Esta Croney, her brother Bobby Shaffer, her eldest son Dale Jones, and her grandson Richard Jones.

She is survived by her sons Roger (Joyce) Jones (Wimberley, TX), John (Angie) Jones (Bolivar, TN), daughter Sheila (Tim) Dunn (Lilbum, GA), and daughter-in-love Jill Jones (Hot Springs Village, AR), eight grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren. Yes… five generations.

Deloris (Meemaw, Mawmaw, Granny and Grandma) doted on her family and they loved her tremendously. She was orphaned at eight years, separated from her siblings (they stayed in touch), and raised by relatives. An experience that formed her deep affection and care for all the family that came her way after marrying Vernon when she was 19 years old. They were married 43 years, until Vernon’s death in 1987. Together they raised their children in Memphis, TN.

They attended Getwell Church of Christ for many years, and then to Collierville Church of Christ as the family moved.

Deloris was a caregiver, a servant to others. To think about her life even for a moment is to know the full self-giving nature of her legacy. Each family member has countless memories of being loved by her… long talks (her listening carefully and then privately praying for us), invitations to the table for yet another meal, fun around that same table with card games (she was competitive), extended vigils as Vernon’s health deteriorated, always considerate of others regardless of her own concerns.

Even in her final years, as her body became more painfully worn out, she was the light of the nursing home. So loved by the other residents and the staff. She was the giver of gifts (Cokes, candy), the bringer of laughter, the encourager of everyone.

She cherished the visits of her family, grands, and greats. She devoured of her Family’s successes and joys, loved the pictures on her computer screens, prayed for all of us to be safe and behave.

She ended every conversation with “I love you very much.”

So do we love you very much, Mom.
