    DAN GILL

Dan Gill

Dan Gill, of Wimberley, Texas, passed peacefully from this world to the next on November 19, 2021 at the age of 66, following an extended battle with cancer. Dan was born August 23, 1955 in Wurtzburg, Germany, where his father was stationed. His father’s Army career took him, and often the family, to locations around the country and world. Dan had fond memories of their time in Panama, and their homes in Columbus, Georgia as well as Williamsburg and Newport News, Virginia. As an adult Dan traveled extensively throughout the continental U.S. and Hawaii, in a van, sports car, motor home, or motorcycle. He had hoped to make it to Alaska one day, but ran out of time.

Dan joins his family members who have passed before him: father, Ulus S. Gill (Sam); mother, Gloria (Michaels) Gill; stepmother, Betty (Duniven) Gill; brother, Louis Gill (Lou); nephew, Jim Gill; and stepsister, Angela (Tingle) Southerland.

Dan is survived by his life companion Lynda (Halverson) Edone, who had been his friend for many years before they committed themselves to each other eleven years ago, measuring that time together in full moons. Dan passed on the anniversary of their 136th full moon together, the night of a partial lunar eclipse. Dan is also survived by brother, Charles S. Gill (Sam) & wife Ellie; sister, Dorothy (Gill) Wilson & partner, Clint Knox; sister, Amanda Gill; brother, Bobby Gill; brother, Billy Gill; half-brother, Wes Carpenter; stepbrother David Tingle; sister-in-law Jimmie Ruth Gill; numerous beloved nieces, nephews, and friends; as well as Lynda’s four children, their spouses, and nine grandchildren who knew and loved him as Grandpa Dan or G’pa.

Dan was inspired by his father, who taught him automotive repair, building trades, and many life lessons as a young boy. By the age of seven, he was repairing lawn mower engines. As a young adult, Dan moved on to motorcycle repair and management in dealerships as well as automotive restoration later in his life. Until his passing, Dan was employed by Amazon, where he especially loved his work with the robotic arm that was newly installed as a prototype for others that would follow in other fulfillment centers throughout the country. He took great pride in all his work, going above and beyond what was expected. He had a keen eye for what needed to be done and set about getting it done to the best of his ability, in all areas of his life. Dan was a man of many talents, who was eager to lend a hand to anyone in need. This kind, generous, compassionate man will be missed greatly by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Heartfelt appreciation is extended to the entire loving staff of Bluebonnet Palliative Care of Wimberley. Their Chaplain Joe even conducted a lovely baptism ceremony at Dan’s request as a public profession of his faith before friends and family.

A Celebration of Life will be planned for a future date. Dan’s ashes will be scattered at some of his favorite locations in Texas; New Mexico; Nags Head, North Carolina (where he enjoyed surf fishing); and Lake Superior in Minnesota. Rest in peace, dear Dan. “Well done, good and faithful servant.”

In memory of Dan, please consider making a tax deductible donation to the Prostate Cancer Foundation.
