Charles Walsh ‘Charlie’ Settle

Charles Walsh “Charlie” Settle passed away peacefully on November 16, 2020, joining his beloved wife of 47 years, Elizabeth Murray “Betsy” Settle, who died on March 7, 2020, with their Lord and Savior.

Charlie was born on July 3, 1928, in Amarillo, Texas, to Charles Eugene and Dorothy Walsh Settle. He graduated from Highland Park High School and attended the United States Naval Academy before graduating from Southern Methodist University, where he was a brother in the Phi Delta Theta fraternity. Charlie enjoyed a long career as an insurance agent in Houston, and he and Betsy, a travel agent, travelled extensively. In retirement, they resided in Wimberley, Texas, where they were active in the Woodcreek Golf Club and founding members of Christ our King Anglican Church of New Braunfels.

Charlie is survived by his children, Charles Walsh “Scooter” Settle, Jr., and his wife, Margaret Snider Settle, and Katherine “Kate” Settle Zeringer and her husband, Mark William; his step-children, J. Brown Cutbirth, III, Murray Stevens Cutbirth and his wife, Patricia Dianne Cutbirth, Marion Cutbirth Mitchell and her husband, Thomas Edwin Mitchell, and Andrew Seale Cutbirth; and his grandchildren, Sam, Charlotte, Cooper, Ryan, Kyle, Adam, Alex, Jennifer and Samantha.

The family wishes to thank the excellent caregivers at Tuscany Living Villas and Alasan Comfort Care. Memorial donations may be made to the Christ our King Anglican Church of New Braunfels Building Fund, 115 King’s Way, New Braunfels, TX 78132. When safety permits, a memorial service will be held at Christ Our King, where Charlie will be inurned next to Betsy, followed by a reception at Cooper’s Old Time Pit Bar-B-Que in New Braunfels, per Charlie’s wishes.
