    BARBARA ANN WATERMAN

Barbara Ann Waterman

Barbara Ann Waterman passed away at her home in Wimberley March 30, 2021 after a valiant battle with breast cancer.

Born Barbara Skorheim on Feb. 16, 1936, in Fergus Falls, Minn., she moved to California with her parents, Mable and Marvin Skorheim, when she was five years old. Her brother David was born four years later.

Barbara attended Mark Keppel High School in Alhambra, California and attended community college in Los Angeles. After marrying Murle Hauser, she moved with him to Oklahoma, where her son Douglas was born.

She returned to Southern California where she met and married her second husband Donald Walker. They adopted a daughter, Sherri, in 1967. Once Sherri entered kindergarten, Barbara was hired by the City of Downey and served 30 years as the executive secretary for the Downey Fire Department, retiring in 2001.

In 2001, Barbara married Robert (Bob) Waterman and moved to Newport Beach, Calif., where she worked in merchandising and retail at Coast Hills Pharmacy. She cared for her mother at her home until Mable’s death in 2010.

In 2015, a year after Bob passed away, Barbara moved to Wimberley to be closer to her daughter and son-in-law and her granddaughter Isabella. She quickly made friends and was embraced by the community, volunteering for the EmilyAnn Theatre & Gardens and other organizations. She belonged to Hill Country Neighbors, the Wimberley Community Civic Club and the Wimberley United Methodist Church. She was an active bridge and mahjong player and a season ticket holder for the Wimberley Players. An avid reader, she visited the Wimberley Village Library on a weekly basis.

Barbara loved to travel and took several epic adventures after she moved to Wimberley, including an RV road trip to Yellowstone and a three-week road trip to Washington DC with her daughter’s family and a tour of Norway with her son’s family. She was looking forward to resuming her travels once Covid protocols were loosened, but cancer had other plans.

She is survived by her son Doug Hauser and her daughter-in-law Karen; her grandsons DJ and Christopher Hauser; her daughter Sherri Cline and her son-in-law Ken; her granddaughter Isabella; her brother Dave Skorheim and his wife Linda; her niece Julie Skorheim and her nephews David and Craig Skorheim and a wide array of friends. She was pre-deceased by her husband Bob and her grandson Brandon.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the organizations that mattered to Barbara: WAG Rescue, the Crisis Breadbasket, Friends of the Wimberley Village Library, the Wimberley Players or Wimberley Senior Citizens Activities, Inc.
