Peggy Snodgrass

On Saturday, September 5, 2020 Peggy Suzanne Snodgrass, a loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother and friend, lost her battle with heart disease at the age of 84. Peggy was born on April 3, 1936 in Cleburne Texas to Morris Sheppard and Jimmie Hopkins. Peggy is preceded in death by her parents, Morris Sheppard and Jimmie Jones Hopkins and her sister Carol Jane Hopkins. She is survived by her husband Joseph Robert Snodgrass, daughters Vivian Page and husband Richard, Suzanne Adele Naccarato and husband Steve, son Joseph Berkley Snodgrass and wife Laurie, and brother, John Hopkins. She is also survived by eight grandchildren; Michael Naccarato, Nicole Snodgrass, Katie Martin, Sam Naccarato, Alec McKelvey, Jennifer Snodgrass, Suzanne McKelvey, and Thomas Naccarato.

In 1956, she married Joseph Robert Snodgrass, who remained at her side until her last days. A native Texan, Peggy grew up and graduated from high school in Edinburg, Texas. She attended Pan American University in Edinburg and went on to earn a BFA degree in studio art at Tex as Tech University in Lubbock.

Peggy worked as a professional artist for most of her life. Her talent extended into teaching art at various workshops and ultimately on the college and university level. In the mid 1970’s she was Artist in Residence for Wayland Baptist College in Plainview, Texas. Subsequently, she was a fashion illustrator for many years and taught painting and figure drawing at McLennan Community College and went on to teach life drawing and fashion illustration at Baylor University, Waco, Texas.

In 1999, Peggy and Joe moved to Wimberley where Peggy became actively involved in various local organizations including the Wimberley Valley Art League where she was on the Gallery Committee. She made regular submissions to WVAL juried shows and won many awards including “Best in Show” on two occasions.

Also while in Wimberley, Peggy became a writer and published her first book, “In Another Country”, a novel based on a true story about her mother’s struggle for justice on the border.

There will be a service on Saturday, October 3rd, at 11:00 in the Columbarium at Chapel in the Hills Church. Only her immediate family will be seated inside, due to health distancing concerns. All others are welcome to stand near the structure to hear the service.
