Taylor Sophia Skaar

Taylor Sophia Skaar, 78 of Wimberley, TX passed away in Virginia, on November 11, 2019.

A memorial was held on 1/2/2020 at the Price Center, San Marcos, TX. Carol Horton and Kimberly Burke officiated the service.

Taylor was born on February 26, 1941, in Ontario, Oregon to Harold Lee Skaar and Melva LaRue.

A passionate teacher, she founded and ran for several years a preschool, The Sunflower School. She maintained lifelong relationships with several Sunflower families. A gifted writer, she wrote short stories and essays, and later worked as a journalist and photographer for the Westlake Picayune. As a professional counselor, she spent several years counseling victims of domestic abuse at the Hays Caldwell Women’s Center in San Marcos, Texas, where she was regularly recognized for her work including being named “Outstanding Professional of the Year.” She eventually went into private practice specializing in sand play therapy.

She is survived by her children Caroline Schaefer and William “Billy” George, and six grandchildren: Thomas George, Nicholas Schaefer, Ethan Schaefer, Abby George, Phyllis Schaefer and Nora Schaefer and sister Linda Cole.

She is Preceded in death by her parents Harold and Melva Skaar, and her brother Denny Skaar.
