A Woodcreek celebration double feature

An estimated 125 people attended the city of Woodcreek’s Arbor Day and National Night Out celebrations at Camp Young Judaea earlier this month.

The Arbor Day celebration was a necessary piece of the city’s attempt to obtain the Tree City USA designation.

“We had presentations on how to properly prepare to plant a tree and presentations on tree and plant care during a drought,” Woodcreek Mayor Jeff Rasco said. “We had Master Naturalists and the Texas Society for Native Plants there. It was a great turnout.”

Two large mature trees were donated by Jacob McElroy, a certified arborist with Simple Leaf Tree Company. One tree was given away to a person in attendance while the other tree was donated to Camp Young Judaea for their help putting on the event. “They did everything,” Rasco said of Camp Young Judaea. “It was amazing. They opened the pool and fed us. They had it all set up and made our jobs really easy.” After the Arbor Day celebration was the annual National Night Out. Hays County Constable Precinct 3 Don Montague and Hays County Sheriff Gary Cutler were both on hand with multiple staff members as well as representatives of the Wimberley Fire Department and Wimberley EMS. “It made for a long day, but it really was a great success,” Rasco said.
