Woodcreek celebrates Arbor Day
Woodcreek held its third annual Arbor Day celebration last Saturday. Karl Flocke with the Texas A&M Forest Service gave a presentation on oak wilt and visitors enjoyed demonstrations from Master Gardeners and Master Naturalists, the Native Plant Society and Tree Folks.
Two white oaks, chosen for their increased tolerance to oak wilt, were donated by Jacob McElroy and Simple Leaf Tree Care and given away in a drawing, with the lucky winners being John Hull and Dennis Riker. Monica Rasco entertained the children with a storytime and there were other special presentations and activities for kids. The Mario’s Kitchen food truck provided fare for celebrants.
Celebrating Arbor Day is a favorite part of the Woodcreek calendar, and is a requirement to maintain the Tree City USA designation earned two years ago from the Arbor Day Foundation.
