Woodcreek calls for self quarantine

Woodcreek City Hall is closing down to the public this week, and Mayor Gloria Whitehead has asked citizens to voluntarily self-quarantine this week as an additional measure of precaution.

“City hall is closed to the public, but we are still here working,” Brenton Lewis, City Manager of the city of Woodcreek. “We will be able to respond by email or by phone calls or anything else. Staff is still here. We are just not accepting walk in traffic.”

That is expected to continue at least for the rest of this week.

The CDC identifies those with a high risk of getting very sick from COVID-19 as older adults (65 and over) and people who have serious chronic medical conditions such as heart disease, diabetes and lung disease.

“Given the demographic of the city of Woodcreek and that many are at high-risk, we have a responsibility to take proper precautions to keep our community safe,” Whitehead said in a statement. “Therefore, we recommend that our citizens voluntarily self-quarantine for the next seven days.”

White head said the primary goal is to “emerge with our community of Woodcreek having no cases of COVID-19.”

In an effort to help make that a reality, the city has canceled meetings through April 1.

“We will continue to monitor the situation with regard to holding future City Council, Board, and Commission meetings and provide notification to the community as new information becomes available,” the statement said.
