Woodcreek beings roadwork planning

More roadwork could be on the way in the city of Woodcreek as the council has started the process of identifying the roads that need the most help.

During the last council meeting, the city began creating a list for street maintenance in 2019 to prioritize the roadwork.

“With our budget, we have roughly $150,000 in general fund and $250,000 in capital projects, we can probably do all the edge breaks and pot hole patching on all streets and up to four miles of resurfacing,” Woodcreek City Manager Brenton Lewis said.

Many roads were brought up as recommendations for focus such as Wildwood, Jack Miller and Augusta Lane. It was mentioned that the work needed on Jack Miller Drive may be more significant than other roads because of issues with drainage and utilities and therefore may not be achievable under the maintenance budget.

The council agreed to submit their recommendations to the roads committee, which will come back with a more formalized plan for street maintenance.

The city also hired a new city attorney after Roger Gordon submitted his resignation in September. The council elected to hire the firm of Kassahn and Ortiz, P.C. from San Antonio for both the city attorney and the city prosecutor. The cost for the attorney will be $175 per hour for the city attorney and $150 per hour for prosecutorial work. The previous cost was $200 per hour. The council voted 3-1 in favor of the new city attorney. Aurora LeBrun was absent. Ray Don Tilley voted against the measure stating that he felt the council had not been given enough time or information to vote on the issue.

The city also voted to purchase a new speed radar sign that can attach to any sign post within the city. Not only will it measure speeds, but it will also collect data on how many cars are speeding.
