Women’s Center to host annual meeting

Hays-Caldwell Women’s Center will highlight the exceptional work of its staff, board of directors and partners to help create a safer community with the public in an annual meeting on Thursday, Nov. 9, at 6 p.m. at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in San Marcos.

CEO Melissa Rodriguez will share an overview of the previous year along with a presentation highlighting each of HCWC’s programs and their efforts to create community connections and better support for our neighbors that have experienced violence and abuse.

In the past year, HCWC served a total of 2,054 face to face victims of family violence, dating violence, sexual assault and child abuse from Hays and Caldwell Counties. HCWC answered a record 3,173 HELPLine crisis calls and responded to 111 individuals through its HEARTeam program at area hospitals.

State Representative Erin Zwiener (D-Driftwood) will share an update on recent legislation that impacts HCWC and the survivors that we serve. A brief question and answer session will follow.

HCWC will also recognize award winners including the Chris Banburry Volunteer of the Year and tenured staff and board members.

In addition to recognizing volunteers, board and staff, HCWC will present its proposed slate of board members for vote, which includes Gabriel Garza, Linda Gonzalez, Carolyn Linér, Marsha Moore, Danette Myers and Heather Baca.

The Hays-Caldwell Women’s Center has a 45-year history of serving adults, youth and children in Hays and Caldwell Counties who are victims of family violence, dating violence, sexual assault, and child abuse.
