WISD school bus involved in crash, no students injured

A Wimberley ISD school bus was involved in a crash last week as the boys soccer team was on the way to a game. No students were reported as injured in the crash, and the game was still played later that evening.

Wimberley ISD Superintendent Dwain York said that reports from the scene indicated a car pulled out in front of the school bus while driving down Highway 281.

“The school bus driver attempted to avoid the car, but could not,” York said while reading a report of the incident from WISD staff members. “He was able to minimize the impact with his actions.”

The school bus was leaking engine fluid, which was later found to be windshield wiper fluid, and was evacuated. A coach on the bus went to aide the person driving the car that was struck.

“They got the kids out of the bus, and up on a hill out of harms way,” York said. “The kids were surveyed for injury, and none were reported. We contacted parents. After the EMS and police arrived, the kids were surveyed for injuries again. One was evaluated by EMS and released on the scene.”

Blanco ISD sent a school bus to try and give the students a place to gather while crews were on scene. Another Wimberley ISD school bus arrived and took the soccer team on to the game, which was played later that evening.

“We do want to thank the Blanco County Sheriff’s Department for their help during this situation as well as Blanco ISD for being there in a time of need,” York said.
