WISD gives update on procedures in place to help prevent virus spread

Wimberley ISD sent an email out to parents today that said there has not been a recommendation to close schools at this time. It also detailed the steps the district is taking to try and prevent the spread of COVID-19. As of March 12, there were no confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Hays County.

“Any decisions regarding a change to school operations will be made in close coordination with local health officials and the Texas Department of Health following any applicable guidance from the CDC,” the email from the school district said. “As of March 13, the recommendation to close schools has NOT been given.”

WISD Superintendent Dwain York said that the Educational Service Center Region 13, which includes WISD and 56 other area school districts, is consistently in contact with area school districts helping them determine the appropriate response to the virus.

The email said that the district regularly reminds students and staff to "cover their cough," wash their hands and declutter personal space.

Students who appear to be ill are sent to the campus nurses where their medical needs are evaluated.

The custodial staff uses a hospital-grade disinfectant and continuously cleans the campus buildings throughout the day including disinfecting all “touching points,” such as light switches, door knobs and sinks daily.

The transportation department is wiping and mopping buses with hospital-grade disinfectant daily after each trip.

The child nutrition staff is also sanitizing all surfaces and “touching points.”

March 13 is the last day before Wimberley ISD’s Spring Break.
