Wings Over Wimberley announces exciting music line up September 13- 15

Texas Blues Guitar Legend Bobby Mack headlines Saturday night as part of WOW celebration of the bats that call Wimberley home

Save the Dates September 13 – 15, 2019 for Wings Over Wimberley (WOW), a new citywide cultural event from the Wimberley Valley Arts and Cultural Alliance (WVACA) celebrating the free-tailed Mexican bats living under Wimberley’s Cypress Creek Bridge in the center of town. Come out and learn more about these fascinating flying mammals and the vital role they play in the Central Texas ecosystem, as you enjoy great music, arts and crafts, food and family fun all weekend long.

Each evening at sundown, we’ll gather creek side to watch as thousands of bats swarm out from under the Cypress Creek Bridge against the colored sky. It’s a sight not to be missed!

WOW music begins Friday evening with Marvin Bottera and Broken Glass, 6-8 pm. On Saturday, the music continues all day with Michael James Band, Noon-2, Gerry Burns, Roy Cunningham and Friends, 3-5 pm, and headliner Bobby Mack, 7-9pm. On Sunday 11-3 pm, enjoy the mellow sounds of popular local singer songwriters, Kit Holmes and Nathan Brown.

From Friday at 5 pm to Sunday at 4 pm, explore WOW’s juried arts and crafts exhibition and marketplace creek side. Food vendors will be offering imaginative and tasty “bat” treats and Middleton’s Brewery has crafted a special “bat brew” they’re calling Night Flyer for the occasion. Austin Bat Refuge and the Bat Association of Texas State University (BATS) will be on-hand with live demonstrations and fascinating information about these often misunderstood creatures. And there will be themed activities and fun for the kiddies all weekend.

According to WVACA Board Member and WOW Committee Chairperson, Pamela Rudd, “We’re excited than many of our area’s wonderful artists, musicians and food vendors will be on hand over this 3-day period so that visitors can not only learn more about bats, but experience the breadth and depth of our cultural arts. And, it’s a great opportunity to experience our special Hill Country town, with its one-of-a-kind boutiques, great restaurants and many unique places to stay.
