In order to address the impacts of COVID-19 and to support Texas’ continued economic recovery, our partners at the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC) approved funding to support a new child care program to help workers in TWC-specified service industries. While TWC is targeting aspects of the service sector with Service Industry Recovery (SIR) child care, all families continue to have access to Workforce Solutions Rural Capital Area's regular income-based child care scholarship program. DAVID WILLIAM OERTEL, conductor of the Starlight Symphony Orchestra in Wimberley TX is a finalist of The American Prize in Orchestral Programming—the Vytautas Marijosius Memorial Award, 2021, in the community orchestra division. This is the third year in a row that David Oertel has been chosen as a finalist for The American Prize, which is currently evaluating winners for each category. David previously won first place in 2019 (for the 2017-2018 season) and third place in 2020 (for the 2018-2019 season). The Starlight Symphony Orchestra is currently planning for a live 2021-2022 season starting the the Fall of this year. New players are needed and welcome to join this summer’s socially-distanced rehearsals. Rehearsals are every Thursday from 7:15-9:00pm at the First Wimberley Baptist Church. Oldham-Cummings VFW Post 6441 hosts Bingo every Friday night beginning at 7 p.m. Bingo is open to the public and is very popular, so come early.

The Science Mill Fall hours are Monday - Saturday 10am-4pm & Sunday Noon to 4pm. We’re also open when school is out! The Science Mill will be open for Labor Day, Monday, September 6 from 10am- 4pm.

June 17th - September 6 The Wimberley Valley Art League's Gallery Show will be hanging in their Gallery at The Wimberley Community Center for the first time in 18 months. For this exhibit, 45 artists collectively offered almost 200 works for consideration by our juror, Vie Dunn-Harr. Artists submitted these works via email and will deliver their selected works to the gallery for our in-person show. We feel fortunate that artists embraced this opportunity and that Vie was willing to share her time and expertise.
