The entire school of Jacob’s Well and first responders honored Johnna Dennis for Pink Out Day

Wimberley turns pink

Jacob’s Well Elementary School had a fire drill on Friday October 26. As with any school fire drill, the students, teachers, staff and everyone in the building headed outside to the back of the school. But there was a big surprise: nine Hays County Constables, Sheriffs, and fire departments led the pack, followed by two ambulances and four fire trucks.

Students’ eyes were wide open and did not know what the heck was going on. But the tail end of the first responders’ parade was a pink police car and a pink fire truck. The first responders were on a mission, not just helping out with the fire drill, but representing Pink Heals.

According to their motto “Pink fire trucks on a mission to save the world one smile at a time.” They made their presence known to honor cancer fighters, those presently battling the disease, free of the disease and those lost to cancer.

Wimberley Fire and Rescue teamed up with Pink Heals and was all over town in pink vehicles supporting cancer awareness month.

At Jacob’s Well, beloved Fourth Grade teacher Johnna Dennis was honored for her successful fight against cancer. The pink garbed firefighters along with other teachers, staff and students stood in line to try and grab a hug from Johnna.

The Pink Heals participants were in town all day Friday, appearing at the high school’s pep rally, at Ace Hardware and tailgating at the Friday night football game raising funds for the fight against cancer.

Their mission is: “To provide communities with a program that supports people in need on a personal level in partnership with public safety and local businesses.” The pink vehicles were donated to the Hays County Pink Heals and everyone was urged to sign one of the vehicles in honor of cancer fighters, survivors or one who lost their battle.
