    TRISH RIGDON MANAGING ARTISTIC DIRECTOR

Wimberley Players bring in new Artistic Director

The Wimberley Players announce the addition of theatre professional, Trish Rigdon, as Managing Artistic Director.

As managing artistic director, she will direct the day-to-day administration of the theater and along with Executive Producer, Adam Witko, will shape the Players annual season. As artistic director, she will lead the artistic team, comprised of board members and other stakeholders, in the selection of plays, musicals, concerts, and films that make up the WP season. She becomes the public face of the award-winning, 42-yearold Wimberley Players, the oldest non-profit organization in Wimberley.

Rigdon is a theatre professional with an extensive list of credits to her name. Her work includes productions seen on Broadway, the West End of London, and touring productions in the US and the United Kingdom, as well as numerous regional productions.

From 2003–2006 she was the Associate Director, Associate Producer, and Costume Designer for the Peter Hall Company in London under the acclaimed director, Sir Peter Hall. She is the former Director of Theatre for Rice University, and from 2010-2016, she was the Executive Director of the Houston Cinema Arts Society. She later served as the Institutional Program Chair of Media Arts at The Art Institute of Houston. She holds a BA in Fine Arts from the University of St. Thomas, Houston, and an MFA in Theatre from the University of Houston. She is married to professional scenic and lighting designer, Kevin Rigdon.

Not a stranger to The Wimberley Players, she directed “Dracula, the Radio Play” in 2020, and “It Had to be You” and “War of the Worlds” in 2021.

“I am so excited to find an artistic home in this community. The Wimberley Players is a wonderful organization and I look forward to adding my talents to their impressive history as a regional theatre,” says Ms. Rigdon. “I’m convinced that Wimberley would not be the artistic community it is without the theater’s long influence and excellence.” With plenty of energy to spare, she has also joined the Civic and Garden clubs and is studying to become a Hays County Master Gardener. President Nick Bradshaw says, “Despite the challenges of the past year, the theatre has steadfastly looked toward the future, and welcoming Ms. Rigdon is a part of that vision. Her deep theatre experience will help us grow in ways that are sure to benefit the cultural landscape of Wimberley.”

The Wimberley Players was founded in 1979 and is the oldest non-profit organization in Wimberley. Early productions were staged at the Greenhouse Theatre in Woodcreek, and in 2004, the Players acquired property at its present location on Old Kyle Road. It welcomed its first audiences in 2006. The Playhouse is located five blocks east of Wimberley’s main square.

Today the Players is a major force in the cultural life of Wimberley and Central Texas with a resume of more than 250 theatrical productions, educational workshops, film screenings, concerts, and other performances in its 42-year history. It has garnered recognition over the years, winning awards from Broadway-World, and among others, the Austin Critics Award in 2018.

The Wimberley Players present inspiring, enter taining performances and programs that bring a diverse community together through live theatre, events and education.
