Wimberley hires new city administrator

Michael Boese has been selected City Administrator by the Wimberley City Council. He will start on March 29.

The city received more than 21 applications for the position, which has been open since Sept. 2020, Mayor Gina Fulkerson said. Over the last several months, the city council narrowed the field to six finalists, all with city management experience.

Boese, which is pronounced BAYZ, will leave his current position of City Manager in Keene, Texas, to head to Wimberley. Pri or to Keene, Boese served as City Manager and Police Chief in the city of Venus, Texas. He also teaches at the Law Enforcement Management Institute of Texas, focusing on ethics.

“This is one of the most critical decisions council will make,” Fulkerson said. “And fortunately, we had an excellent field of candidates. Mike’s solid resume and approach to city management seemed like an excellent fit for Wimberley.”

In addition to a Masters in Public Policy and Graduate Certificate in Local Government Management from the University of Texas at Dallas, Boese holds a Bache lor’s Degree in History with a minor in Criminal Justice from Metropolitan State University in Denver, Colo. He is in the process of obtaining a Masters in Emergency Management from American Military University in West Virginia. He is a member of professional organizations including the Texas City Managers Association, the International City Managers Association, Government Finance Officers Association, Texas Police Chiefs Association and the FBI Law Enforcement Executive Development Association.

Paul Parker has been serving as Interim City Administrator since the departure of Wimberley’s previous City Administrator Shawn Cox in Sept. of 2020. Fulkerson said that council agreed Parker will continue to serve on a consulting basis to facilitate Boese’s full transition, as well as to finalize construction of Wimberley’s downtown sewer system.

Council voted unanimously to hire Boese at the special meeting Feb. 23. The regular Feb. 18 meeting was rescheduled due to weather.
