WHS takes home three UIL Academic State Championships

The Wimberley High School UIL Academic team brought home three State Championships from the 4A State Academic Meet. Leading the way for the Texans was junior Quinton Mendoza who won championships in Current Issues and Social Studies. Mendoza’s first place finish in Current Issues also led the WHS team to a first place tie with Hereford HS. The other members of the Current Issues Team were Jackson Delhagen (4th overall), Harrison Mayhew (10th), and Cameron Waida (13th). The Social Studies team finished in second place overall. Competing for the team were Mendoza (1st overall), Tillman Martinez (10th), Jackson Delhagen (17th), and Natalie Smith (20th). Also placing at the state meet was Elysia Becken, who finished third in the Ready Writing event. Overall the WHS team earned 60.5 points, ranking 6th in 4A behind Argyle HS, Lindale HS, Andrews HS, Salado HS, and Hereford HS.

The Wimberley HS UIL Academic Coordinator is Kyla Brookshier-DeLeon. The Current Issues and Social Studies teams are coached by Brad Biggers.
