Texans beat Canyon Lake in overtime

Though their playoff spot had been already secured, there was plenty to play for as Wimberley battled Canyon Lake on Senior Night.

In a thrilling battle, the Texans knocked off the Hawks in a 66-56 overtime win in the final home game of the season.

The rivalry match up turned into a heated battle as the two rivals fought tooth and nail from the opening tipoff. At the end of the first quarter, the game was all tied up at 12-12.

Wimberley took advantage in the second quarter to break the deadlock. Outscoring Canyon Lake 17-12 during the period, Wimberley went into halftime with a 29-24 lead.

But the Hawks were determined to ruin Senior Night for Wimberley. The Hawks out scored the Texans 10-9 in the third quarter. Heading into the fourth quarter, Wimberley clung to a 38-34.

The Hawks stormed back in the fourth quarter, and outscored the Texans 16-12. But Wimberley didn’t let the Hawks spoil their final night in Texan Gym. The Texans didn’t allow Canyon Lake to take the victory as the two were all tied up at 50-50

Heading into overtime, Wimberley overwhelmed from start to finish. Outscoring Canyon Lake 16-6 in a thrilling period, Wimberley finished off the Hawks 66-56 en route to a season sweep of their rivals.

Houston Murphy led the team 13 points while Josh Limely followed with 12 points including hitting two three pointers.

Murphy also led the team in rebounds with nine followed by Colby Boyle with four.

Wimberley will advance to the Bi-District round of the playoffs and will battle the Taylor Ducks on Tuesday night at Buda Johnson High School.
