Sweat promoted as new Publisher

View looks for next editor

Wimberley View General Manager and Editor Dalton Sweat has been promoted to Publisher of San Marcos Publishing, LP.

The publishing company owns the Wimberley View, Dripping Springs Century News and San Marcos Daily Record.

”I’m happy to see this transition take place,” Lance Winter, outgoing publisher, said. “Dalton has been a familiar face in Hays County over the years and has a passion for delivering a great news product for both readers and advertisers.”

Winter leaves a 40year career in the newspaper industry to pursue other interests but will remain in Hays County.

In his new role, Sweat will take over the dayto- day duties in the San Marcos office, located at 1910 South I-35. In addition to overseeing the operations of all three newspapers, San Marcos Publishing is also the printer for more than a dozen weekly newspapers throughout the state of Texas.

“This is a bittersweet moment for me,” Sweat said. “I love covering my hometown for my hometown newspaper. It is rare to have the opportunity to invest your livelihood in a fashion that benefits the community you love. At the same time, I have worked hard for this opportunity in San Marcos, and it is also a community I love as a Texas State University graduate. I am so excited about the opportunity in front of me, and it is nice to know that I’ll still be able to watch over the Wimberley View from my new position, even if I’m not as involved in the daily routine.”

Sweat will take over the role of Publisher from Winter on November 8. Winter will be starting in a new position with the Greater San Marcos Partnership after spending the last five years at the helm of the company.

Sweat has been an employee of San Marcos Publishing, LP since March of 2013. In March of 2014, the company purchased the Wimberley View from Jack Mynier and Sweat was moved from the San Marcos office to his hometown of Wimberley to be editor of the View.
