Superintendent York retirement accepted

The Wimberley ISD Board of Trustees officially accepted and approved Superintendent Dwain York’s notice of retirement at its regular meeting on November 15. Trustee Joe Malone read York’s retirement letter into the record.

“I have been blessed to serve in education as a high school math teacher, coach, athletic director, assistant principal (Danforth - 1 year), high school principal (WHS - 8 years) and superintendent (WISD - 15 years) for a total of 42 years as an educator,” York’s letter said. “It’s a bittersweet announcement for me because while I’m looking forward to spending more time with family and pursuing some of my other interests, WISD has become such a big part of my life. This year is my 24th school year here in Wimberley and what an awesome ride it’s been.”

York’s retirement is effective August 31, 2022, so he’ll finish out this school year and be available to assist in a transition of leadership over the summer. He announced his plans for retirement to WISD staff in August prior to the beginning of the school year. On August 30 the WISD Board selected Thompson & Horton LLP as the third-party firm to lead the search for the district’s new superintendent. The firm met again with the Board in October, outlining a tentative plan for the search process. The plan begins in earnest in December, starting with the public posting of the job opening. Public opportunities for input will be available in the new year.
