Shake Russell at Susanna’s Kitchen Coffeehouse

Texas troubadour (and a favorite of Susanna’s Kitchen audiences) Shake Russell has entertained listeners throughout the region with his unique style of folk-rock for more than four decades. A prolific songwriter, Shake has written or co-written hundreds of tunes. Songs written by Shake have been recorded by Ricky Scaggs, Waylon Jennings, Clint Black, Jessi Colter, and Carolyn Dawn Johnson.

Shake’s songs draw from various genres and his unique style of folkrock weaves sophisticated harmonies together with lyrics that are imbued with vividly beautiful imagery and a clever use of language. An evening with Shake Russell undoubtedly will blend love songs, ballads, and waltzes, lively rockabilly tunes and soulful R&B pieces. But it is the warmth and richness of Shake Russell’s melodious voice that make his concerts so special. As Bruce Bryant of Ghost Ranch Films, a fan, says, “Shake’s music walks right up to you, says howdy, and gives you a big hug. His tunes make you feel happy or sad or thoughtful. Nobody writes a better love song.”

Shake’s songwriting and singing have brought him numerous awards over the years, including the BMI Writer’s Award four times and being named Texas Music Association’s Entertainer of the Year three times. His latest album is “Chasing The Song,” released this spring on Howling Dog Records.

You won’t want to miss Shake Russell on August 16 at Susanna’s Kitchen Coffeehouse, located at Wimberley United Methodist Church (corner RR 12 & CR 1492). The concert starts at 7:30, and doors open by 7:00 p.m. Pizza, tamales, pie, coffee, and soft drinks are available. Tickets are sold at the doors. Admission is $20 for adults, $5 for kids (under 18). Proceeds benefit The Barnabas Connection, Operation Good Shepherd, Camp Good Sam Wimberley, and Bright Beginnings Preschool.
