Scholarship supports arts, trades students in Wimberley Valley

The Wimberley Valley Arts and Cultural Alliance is once more accepting donations for its annual scholarship in preparation for its application season in early spring.

WVACA launched the Robert Moreman Memorial Scholarship Fund last year in memory of Robert Duke Moreman, Jr. (1957-2020), who played a significant role in the Wimberley community and in the life of WVACA from the organization’s inception in 2013.

The goal of this scholarship fund is to provide substantial financial support to deserving graduates of Wimberley High School and Katherine Ann Porter School who plan to pursue continuing education in one of WVACA’s artistic four pillars: visual, performing, literary or culinary arts; or the building trades, in honor of Robert’s profession.

Thanks to the generosity of many donors, the 2021 Robert Moreman Memorial Scholarship Fund was able to provide scholarships of $6,000 each to four extremely deserving 2022 Wimberley graduates: Andy Burke is studying art and theater at Antioch College in Ohio.

Guy Massey is at Texas A&M’s College of Science and Engineering studying both metallurgy and culinary arts.

Jack Garrett is pursuing drama at New York University’s Tisch School for the Arts.

Simon Ramirez is following his passion in music composition at the University of North Texas.

This scholarship is awarded annually.

To make a tax deductible donation to this year’s fund, on-line or by check, please visit wimberleyarts. org/scholarships.

Donations to the 2022 fund close at midnight on Dec. 31. Applications will be accepted beginning Jan. 1, 2023, through March 15, 2023, for scholarships to be awarded in the spring. All the details regarding scholarship criteria and application requirements can be found at wimberleyarts.org/ scholarships.
