The Salvation Army appeals for volunteers for disaster relief

The Salvation Army’s San Marcos Service Center needs volunteers who would like to participate as disaster relief personnel during emergencies. Regional representative, Anthony Torres, said, “The center is currently working on a strategic plan to purchase a Rapid Response Unit, or RRU. This vehicle is used to serve food during a disaster. We are trying to locate individuals that would be interested in serving on an emergency disaster team. The individuals would be trained to serve food off the RRU or canteen during a disaster. Training will be provided at no cost, plus all expenses paid during a disaster by the Salvation Army. Individuals must be willing to deploy as necessary.” Torres explained that the length of deployment could be as little as a few days or up to fourteen days, especially during hurricane season.

The first training session is titled, “Introduction to Emergency Disaster Services.” The introductory session will be held on Saturday, March 7, at 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. at the San Marcos Service Center, located at 300 S. CM Allen Parkway, suite 100. Lunch will be provided. The center’s phone number is (512) 754-8541.
