Sales continue trending upward

The amount of sales made within the Wimberley Valley continues to increase showing signs of a strong local economy.

The sales tax allocations for the city of Wimberley, which is one percent of all sales tax collected within the city limits, were up in July. The July allocation represents sales made in May.

The city of Wimberley received $76,106.24 for its portion of the sales tax this month, which is up 10 percent over the same month last year. This is one of the largest increases of the year. The large majority of the increase came from sales made during the month, as opposed to from businesses paying off past or future sales tax, showing that total amount of sales within the city were markedly better than last year.

Sales within the city have trended up for most of 2019, a stark contrast from 2018 when there were multiple months that sales were down within the city limits. During 2019, the city of Wimberley has collected $539,140.13, which is up almost four percent over the same period last year.

The same can be said for the city of Woodcreek, which does not rely heavily on sales tax. Woodcreek received $5,087.57 in July, which is up 21.4 percent over the same month last year. In 2019, Woodcreek has received $34,413.41, which us up nearly 15 percent over last year.

The Wimberley Village Library receives half a percent of sales made within Wimberley Independent School District. It also has seen consistent gains this year showing that sales are up throughout the entire Wimberley Valley. The library received $52,892.66 for the month of July, which is 13.2 percent over the same month last year. For the year, the library has received $387,193.79, which is up 15.4 percent from last year.

Hays County, which receives half a percent of sales made within the county, received $1,812,905.73 for the month, which is up 10 percent over the same month last year.
