PEC awards grants to community nonprofits

Through its Community Grants program, Pedernales Electric Cooperative (PEC) awarded $24,385 to eight local nonprofit organizations throughout its service territory.

“It’s an honor to help fund these local nonprofit organizations that enrich our communities,” PEC Community Relations Coordinator Caroline Tinsley Porter said.

PEC is proud to award grants to these area nonprofits for the following projects:

Hays County Food Bank received $760 to purchase security system and monitoring equipment.

Driftwood Volunteer Fire Department and North Hays County Volunteer Fire Department received $1,897 to purchase tech equipment to upgrade training room.

The Dog Alliance received $5,000 to purchase automated external defibrillators as well as provide AED, CPR, and first aid training for staff.

Canyon Lake Community Resource and Recreation Center received $5,000 to install energy-efficient lighting. The Health Innovation Center received $5,000 to install surgical-grade lighting to assist students in practicing complicated medical procedures.

Henly Volunteer Fire Department received $3,324 to purchase flight hazard marking materials to ensure safe takeoff and landing for rescue equipment.

Pet Pals received $1,510 to purchase oxygen concentrator to be used during free or low-cost spay and neuter operations.

PEC Community Grants are funded by its members through the PEC Power of Change program. Participants’ electric bills are rounded up to the nearest dollar, and the combined funds are used to supplement PEC Community Grants and education contributions. The average monthly donation is just $0.49. Visit pec.coop/power-of-change to learn more.
