Ozona helps bread basket provide Thanksgiving meals

Wait! Don’t shoot! It’s that time of the year again, and I don’t mean Turkey Hunting season. But if you see a human in a big turkey suit on Ranch Road 12, they are a force for good in Wimberley. Ozona Bank and the Crisis Bread Basket have teamed up once again.

They are raising funds to provide turkeys for those who might not, otherwise have a Thanksgiving feast, Here in the valley. One of the Thanksgiving season’s kickoff events in Wimberley is the annual Ozona Bank and the Crisis Bread Basket’s fundraiser.

Ozona Bank will match individual donations two to one, up to $7,500.

What a deal. Wimberley’s Crisis Bread Basket is unique in that there is no paperwork, such as showing utility bills, etc, to receive help. There are no government funds involved, on any level. It is all volunteer contributions that keep it alive.

No one is turned away. In fact, no matter if you live in the WISD area, or not, they will help with finding the proper organizations for help. But really, no one leaves if hungry.

Ozona Bank shows their support of the Wimberley community all year long, but taking to the streets in costumes is perhaps the most colorful way to show your support with no one calling out “Fowl.”

“The employees at Ozona Bank love wearing turkey costumes and asking for donations on Ranch Road 12 as well as volunteering with others for packing and the food/turkey distribution,” Daina Schwartz Ozona’s Marketing and Advertising Manager said. “(Ozona Employees) said it warms their hearts to see an organization help residents in need in the Wimberley Community. This includes veterans who have served our country. They love to see the recipients’ smiling faces when they know they are getting a wonderful meal and they have people and businesses who care for them.” The partnership has been very successful.

“We’re so thankful that Ozona Bank is partnering with us again this year on the Annual Ozona Bank / Crisis Bread Basket Fundraiser. Ozona is not only matching the donations up to $7,5000, their employees will be out on the street collecting money for us and assisting us in distributing the complete Turkey Diners to our clients. Our clients are blessed to have Ozona Bank and all the rest of the Wimberley Community that continues to donate generously to our food pantry,” John Myers, Board Chair of CBB.

Collection time will be on Thursdays, November 14 and 21, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. If driving in town, you will see them, flapping their feathers around CBB and Ozona.

Crisis Bread Basket volunteers and Ozona Bank employees will distribute the turkey dinners to the CBB clients on November 21, at the Community Center’s parking lot.

Remember, these are not jive turkeys, but turkeys doing good for Wimberley.

Monetary Donations to the Crisis Bread Basket are welcome at anytime during open hour at Ozona Bank on Ranch Road 12. But on Thursdays, be on the lookout for Turkeys on 12!
