OPEN FOR BUSINESS

Alexis Pointe has grand opening of the largest building footprint added to the Wimberley Valley since H-E-B

Alexis Pointe Senior Living opened its doors to the community last week for a grand opening of one of the largest facilities of any kind in the Wimberley Valley.

“We are thrilled to be here and be a part of this community,” Jody Stratton, Senior Executive Director of Alexis Pointe Senior Living, said. “We have independent living, assisted living and memory care living. We are already filling up our independent living and folks are moving in. We will have our first state survey this week towards getting our state license for the assisted living and memory care.”

The facility is located just off Ranch Road 12 stretching from behind Brookshire Brothers up to the area behind the Shamrock convenience store, where the entrance is located.

In the main building, there are 49 assisted living apartments along with 16 secured private memory care apartments, a dining room, gym and activity spaces. The apartments are full sized ranging from one to two bedrooms. Behind the main building is a set of 10 cottages with independent living apartments.

The three segments allow for a range of possibilities for residents.

“Someone moving into independent living is able to manage on their own and be able to drive and go shopping and are able to come and go but are just enjoying the once a week house keeping, linen service and someone else cooking for you as we offer two meals a day,” Stratton said. “Some people, as they age, may need some help. What assisted living offers is you still have your own full size apartment but right outside the door is 24-hour staff. Those staff are built in place for as we age we may need help with showering or activities of daily living or mobility issues, and we are able to help them based on what they need. Not everybody needs a memory care, but as you know in the US and worldwide dementia has exploded the last few generations. We have smaller apartments that are in a private secured area where it is a much less hectic environment that makes more sense for those that have dementia.”

Stratton said it will be important to make sure the residents of the facility can continue to be a part of the local community.

“Anybody that has lived in Wimberley for very long is probably pretty involved in the community to some level. It is a very active community. That is what we want our residents to be able to continue to do…. We are here to help them stay as active as they can. One of my goals is to help build a volunteer program, not volunteers to come help us but a program for our residents going out into the community because we have so much to share still. Schools, daycares, plants, gardening, there is so much knowledge here that tends not to get tapped into once we age and I want to change that for these people.”
