OUTGOING PRESIDENT MICHAEL COOPER CONGRATULATES HOLLY SAWYER ON BEING ELECTED VICE PRESIDENT OF MEMBERSHIP. PROVIDED BY LEO SOPICKI.

New officers for Wimberley Toastmasters

The officers will guide the club on its mission to provide a supportive and positive experience in which members learn communication and leadership skills. The club, which meets the second and fourth Thursdays at First Baptist Church Wimberley, is also known to help members develop greater self-confidence and personal growth.

Amy O’Neil, a long-time Toastmaster and Wimberley Valley resident, accepted the role of president. O’Neil, who has a reputation as a “go-getter” and “sparkplug” in the club, shared that the Toastmasters experience has helped her in her profession as a real estate agent. A realtor since 1988, she currently is a broker and works the central Texas area in both land and homes. She explained, “I am delighted most by the genuinely sincere feedback during meetings and the desire of the members to help one another.”

O’Neil said she has big plans for the coming year.

“I’m looking to do projects which involve more young people in the club and increase our community involvement,” she explained. “We’re going to expand our social media reach, and we might even make a movie.”

Last year’s president, Michael Cooper, accepted the dual challenge of club treasurer and secretary. He quipped, “Somebody’s got to keep the paperwork straight!”

Two relatively new club members have also stepped up into leadership roles.

Holly Sawyer, owner of The Edge Beauty Collective in Wimberley, will tackle the vice president of membership role. She said that being in business in a great and growing community like Wimberley should help her connect with people who could use Toastmasters to improve their public speaking and leadership skills.

Texas Department of Public Safety retiree Alan Sowell will be Sergeant-at-Arms. His position makes sure the meeting place is ready and greets new guests.

Two long time Toastmasters will take on other key positions. Vice President of Education responsibilities will fall to Debra Sherril and Vice President of Public Relations activities will be run by Leo Sopicki.
