New Lions Club President

July 1 begins a new year for the Wimberley Lions Club by ushering in new board members as well as a new president. During the 2020-2021 year, Bobby Burris, Minister at Buda-Kyle Church of Christ, will lead this local service organization with several specific goals in mind. As outlined in a speech given on June 16 during an installment ceremony, he stated, “It is my desire this year as president of our club to continue its distinguished tradition of service to our community under a theme ‘Our Time to Shine’.” He said that Lions will shine by having a deep, abiding conviction to serve, by making connections and having effective communication, by having courage to implement innovative projects, and by showing compassion. Also in his speech, Burris urged all Lions to redouble their commitment to the international organization’s motto “We Serve.”

He explained, “By helping people, helping neighbors, we reap the benefits of a community that is much closer and better together than we are apart.“ Burris encouraged his fellow Lions to be bold and innovative. He said, “Our projects should stand out and touch people’s lives in a deep and lasting way.” Making his last point, he said, “Acts of compassion draw people, not creeds. It is acts of kindness, it is acts of help that make us shine bright. It can be heard in our tone of voice and seen in our willingness to listen and lend a hand. Compassion makes us shine brightly. And it is through this brightness that we overcome dark days.”

Finally, speaking as Wimberley’s new “Boss Lion,” Burris summed up the current club’s legacy, saying, “It is our Time to Shine. By our convictions, our connections, our courage and our compassions, we will transform our possibilities and our opportunities into stories of success that our club can build on long after we are gone.”
